Turn Your Conservatory Into a Proper Room
Overheats in summer, freezes in winter and drums in the rain.
Not sure if your conservatory can take a solid roof? The survey costs nothing and there is no deposit.
Warm in Winter, Cool in Summer
Most conservatories were built with polycarbonate or glass roofs that cannot cope with a Scottish year. The room overheats on a sunny day, loses heat as fast as you can put it in through the winter, and on the east coast the wind and rain make it noisy for much of the year.
A solid, insulated roof turns it into real living space: a dining room, a playroom or a home office you can use all year, without the cost and upheaval of building an extension.
- Comfortable in January and July
- No more rain noise
- Lower heat loss through the roof
- Your walls, windows and frames usually stay as they are

Why Dundee Homeowners Trust Us With Their Conservatory
Most conservatory roofs are finished within 2 to 4 days, and the room is kept covered while the old roof is off.
Nothing is paid until the roof is finished and you are happy with it.
Each new conservatory roof is guaranteed for 20 years.
If your conservatory needs strengthening before a solid roof can go on, we tell you at the survey.
Inside a Solid Conservatory Roof
What Is Wrong With a Polycarbonate Roof?
Polycarbonate and glass let heat straight through. On a bright day the room becomes a greenhouse, and in winter the heat escapes almost as quickly as the radiator puts it in, so the room costs more to heat and is rarely comfortable.
Then there is the noise. Rain on a polycarbonate roof can drown out a conversation, and in an east coast winter that happens a lot. A solid roof ends it.

A Solid Tiled Conservatory Roof
We take the polycarbonate or glass roof off and build a fully insulated, tiled roof in its place. People sometimes call this a conservatory roof conversion, because the room ends up working like part of the house.
The system uses lightweight Metrotile tiles on a Glulam ringbeam, so in most cases your existing conservatory walls need no changes. Planning permission is not usually needed, and we confirm this at the survey.

The Layers in Our Conservatory Roof
Each layer has a job. Together they keep water out, keep heat in and give a finish that matches the rest of the house.
- Roof tiles
Lightweight tiles that look like a traditional roof. - Breather membrane
Stops rain getting in but lets moisture out. - PIR insulation board
Rigid insulation that keeps the heat in all year. - Eaves protector
Protects the roof edge and runs water into the gutter. - Glulam ringbeam
A laminated timber beam that takes the weight of the roof. - Timber frame and deck
The new structure, and a firm base for the insulation and tiles. - Gutter and fascia
Neatens the edge and takes rainwater away.

Insulated Panels or a Complete New Roof?
Some products slot insulated panels into the existing roof frame. We take the old roof off and build a complete new one, with its own timber structure, insulation and tiles.
It is a bigger job than fitting panels, but the result is a properly insulated, tiled roof that performs like the rest of your house. The surveyor can show you the difference on your own conservatory.

From Survey to Finished Conservatory Roof
We check the conservatory’s structure and talk through roof styles, tiles and colours.
You get a clear, no-obligation quote for every part of the job, with no deposit to pay.
The old roof comes off and the new structure and roof go on, with the room kept covered and protected throughout.
We check the finished roof, tidy up and walk you through it before we leave.

Conservatory Roof Questions
How much does a new conservatory roof cost in Dundee?
It depends on the size and shape of the conservatory, the tiles and finish you choose, and whether any strengthening is needed. We do not quote without seeing it, but the survey is free and the quote comes in writing with no obligation. There is no deposit, and finance is available.
Will a solid roof work on my conservatory?
Most conservatories can take one, but it depends on the age, size and condition of the structure. We check every conservatory first, and if it needs strengthening we tell you before you commit.
Do I need planning permission?
In most cases replacing a conservatory roof falls under permitted development, so planning permission is not needed. We confirm this at the survey and flag anything specific to your property.
How long does it take?
Most conservatory roofs are finished within 2 to 4 days, depending on the size of the conservatory and any preparation needed. We never leave it open to the weather.
Will a tiled roof make the room darker?
It will be less bright than a glass roof, because the light comes in through the windows rather than overhead. In return the room stops overheating and the glare goes. The surveyor can talk through what to expect in your own conservatory.
Is a tiled roof better than insulated panels?
They are different jobs. Panels sit inside your existing roof frame. We take the whole old roof away and build a new one with its own structure, PIR insulation and lightweight tiles, so it works like the roof on the rest of the house.
Do you charge a deposit?
No. You pay nothing until the new roof is on and you are happy with it.
Can I spread the cost?
Yes. Through Ideal4Finance, a credit broker, you can spread the cost over 36, 48, 60 or 120 months at 11.9% APR representative, on amounts up to £30,000, subject to status. Our Dundee finance page has a representative example.

From my first conversation with Jaime to arrange an appointment, to Ronnie providing the quote, and Jonny and Ben carrying out the work, I’m extremely happy with my decision to choose Speedy Roofing. They installed a lightweight roof in my conservatory, and I’m really pleased with the finished result. It has made a noticeable difference in keeping my home warmer and looks great!! The team even left the room cleaner than I left it, which was a great touch! I felt completely comfortable throughout the whole process, and Grant was always quick to respond to any questions I had. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again and would highly recommend them to others.Posted on Google![]()

Towards the end of last year Speedy roofing replaced my roof and my wife and I are delighted with the boys. We had a few quotes but Speedy really stood out from the start and they were able to show me lots of other work they had completed in Gourock. Grant kept us informed as the scaffold went up and skip was dropped off. Gary the roofer then arrived sharp daily and worked tirelessly until the work was complete. Really happy with the whole service and couldn’t recommend the whole team highly enough!Posted on Google![]()

We have recently had a full roof replacement completed by the team at Speedy Roofing and have been very pleased with everything from start to finish. Ronnie came out to carry out an initial inspection before drawing up a very competitive and detailed quote for us. The work commenced a week after we agreed to the quote and the communication leading up to this and throughout has been great. The team worked very efficiently to complete the full roof replacement in 7 working days and we have been very pleased with the finished result. Would highly recommend Speedy Roofing to anyone looking to get work done.Posted on Google![]()

What a fantastic Roofing company! Would 100% recommend them to anyone who asked. Had my roof replaced a few weeks ago after having several quotes from different companies. When Mark came out to provide the quote, I had a good feeling about the ethos of the company from the way he explained everything and the caring nature in which he really listened to my needs. The professionalism, care and attention to my needs were exquisite. My roof had been leaking for a few months and getting worse each day, therefore I was in desperate need of a quick job. The roof was replaced by Gary and his son who worked meticulously each day and were very courteous to me and my property. The scaffolding company where also fantastic, Gary and his team were friendly and accommodating. Finally, Grant from Speedy Roofing was very attentive and answered all my questions promptly and explained everything well. My neighbours have all commented on what a great job has been done. I am super pleased that I chose Speedy Roofing to keep a roof over my head!
