Client's Challenge

This homeowner in Helensburgh required a full structural upgrade including new Velux windows, modern Marley tiles and the safe removal and reinstallation of solar panels.required a full renewal of their existing roof, which had begun to fail due to ageing tiles, deteriorated felt and battens, and outdated internal boarding. The property also had solar panels installed, meaning the work needed to be carried out with extra care to safely disconnect, store and later reinstall the system. The Velux windows were also worn and no longer performing efficiently, contributing to heat loss and reduced natural light. The overall roof structure needed strengthening, modernising and weatherproofing to ensure long-term protection.

Our Solution

We began by safely disconnecting and storing the homeowner’s solar panels to allow unrestricted access to the roof. All existing tiles, felt and battens were then stripped and removed, exposing internal boards which were replaced with new 9mm Sterling board to create a solid and reliable deck. A Marley breathable membrane and new eaves support trays were installed to improve ventilation and ensure protection against water ingress. Two new Velux windows were fitted along with their accompanying flashing kits, providing improved daylight, insulation and weather resistance. Treated timber counter battens and tile battens were installed to provide a strong foundation for the new roof covering. We supplied and fitted new uPVC deep-flow guttering and tiled the full roof using the Marley tile of the client’s choice, including vented tiles for improved airflow. Once the roofing works were completed, the existing solar panels were carefully reinstalled and tested to ensure they were operating correctly. The project was finalised with the installation of a dry verge and dry ridge system, providing a clean, secure and low-maintenance finish across the entire roofline.

The homeowner now benefits from a fully renewed roofing system that offers significantly improved durability, ventilation and weather protection. With upgraded structural boarding, new Velux windows, modern guttering and a complete Marley tiled finish, the property has gained both aesthetic appeal and long-term reliability.
