Client's Challenge
With tiled roofs having a life expectancy of anywhere between 40 and 50 years, this property was naturally starting to shown signs of water ingression and internal dampness due to the age of the property.
Our Solution
We installed 9mm OSB and a Marley breathable membrane for ventilation and moisture protection. Treated timber, counter battens, and tile battens provided a strong, stable structure, finished with Ludlow Major Tiles in Smooth Grey and inline tile vents for airflow. For a durable, weathertight ridge, we fitted the Marley ventilated dry ridge system. This quick-to-install, fully dry-fixed system provides continuous 5mm ventilation while reducing costs and ensuring long-term performance. Hydrophobic and elastomeric membranes enhance weather resistance and ease installation. A new dry verge system was added for durability, and we replaced the lead flashing around the chimney for watertight protection.
Project Outcome
Although a very simple roof design, the team at Speedy still created a meticulous plan and got straight to work on this project. We stripped back the existing tiles, battens, timber deck and lead flashing at the base of the chimney. We then installed 9mm OSB, Marley breathable membrane, treated timber, counter and tile battens and replaced the lead flashing on the chimney. We finished the look by installing Ludlow Major Tiles in Smooth Grey, inline tile vents, a new dry verge system and a new vented dry ridge system. The client was delighted with this clean and simple upgrade.
